Paige Smith 9/20/12 ECI 430 Takeaway Andrew’s Chapter 3 One takeaway from Andrew’s chapter was the idea that language is “pain, bored or nothing.” I agree that a lot of students think that language and literature are not fun and they are student’s least favorite subjects. In chapter 3, Elbow says that students think that we are teaching them insufficient details. The public view sees English teachers or those who have English based careers are only trying to correct people’s native language. As I become a teacher, I will remember that all students will speak differently. Some students will come from different cultures and they will speak as that has their whole life. I will not be there to tell them their language is wrong. I only want to help them understand that English is not a painful subject and it can be fun. I want them to know what I am teaching them is important and not insufficient.
